Charles McCabe was born near Mullagh, County Cavan. He was a poet and harpist and among other works is remembered for his elegy on the death of Carolan who was his friend. Most of Mac Cabe's work has been assimilated into the oral tradition, but some manuscripts are in the British Library. He is buried near St Ultan's Well in the barony of Castlerahan, County Cavan.
