Billy Gillespie was born in Derry and was an international soccer player. He played for Derry City, Leeds United and Sheffield. Between 1913 and 1931 he scored twelve goals in twenty-five international games for Northern Ireland. He was manager of Derry City Football Club for nine years. He is still the most capped Sheffield United player, and won twenty-five caps while he was at the club.
