Henry Bagenal (c.1556 - 1598):
Soldier

Henry Bagenal was an Elizabethan soldier who succeeded his father as marshal of the army in Ireland in 1590. In 1591 his sister Mabel became the third wife of Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone; Henry Bagenal was opposed to the marriage. In 1595 the armies of both men clashed at the Yellow Ford, two miles from Armagh. Henry Bagenal was killed by a musket ball when he lifted the visor of his helmet, and his army was defeated.
