James Glasgow was born on 27 May 1805 near Clough, County Antrim. He attended the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. In 1835 he was ordained Minister of Castledawson Presbyterian Church. He was a missionary in Gujurat, India with the Irish Presbyterian Church from 1841 to 1864. On his return to Belfast he became a professor of oriental languages. He died in 1890.
