William McComb was born in Coleraine, County Londonderry. Before becoming a bookseller in Belfast he was a schoolteacher. He published six volumes of poetry, and a collected edition was published in 1864. He was responsible for establishing the Presbyterian Almanac, a publication which ran for nearly fifty years.
