John McBride was born in Ulster and educated in Glasgow. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in Clare in 1680 and installed in Belfast in 1694. He declined to take the Oath of Abjuration in 1703 and was forced to escape to Scotland on two occasions. Much of his written work has survived.
