William Beresford was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, and became Doctor of Divinity in 1780. In that year he was ap-pointed Bishop of Dromore, and two years later Bishop of Ossory. In 1794 he was given the Archbishopric of Tuam and in 1812 was created Baron Decies.
