George Henry Kinahan (1829 - 1908):
Geologist


George Kinahan was born in County Down, and was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. After having been engaged on the construction of the Boyne Viaduct, he entered the Geological Survey and became a district surveyor in 1869. He published many papers on geology and was a member of the Royal Irish Academy. It is said of him that few had his knowledge of Irish geological structure. He died in Clontarf.
