Richard Kane (1662 - 1736):

Richard Kane was born in Duneane, County Antrim, entered the army in 1689 and was wounded at the Battle of Blenheim in 1704. From 1720 to 1725 he served as Governor of Gibraltar and of Minorca, where he died. He published Narrative of the Campaigns in the Reigns of William the Third and Anne, and his letters are in a collection in the British Library. He was knighted, and a monument was erected to him in Westminster Abbey.
