Malcolm Hamilton was born in Ballygawley, County Tyrone. He went to Sweden to join his uncle Hugh and became a naturalised Swedish noble in 1664. He rose to the rank of general and by 1698 was Governor of Wester-Howland. He died in Stockholm.
