Alexander Goudy was born in County Down. He was a Presbyterian minister in Strabane, County Tyrone, from 1833 to 1858 and became Doctor of Divinity in 1851. In 1857 he was appointed Moderator of the General Assembly. He contributed to Plea of Presbytery and Presbyterianism Defended. He was the grandson of the Rev. James Porter of Greyabbey, who was hanged in 1798. [Biography T. Croskery]
