George Forbes was 6th Earl of Granard. He was educated at Armagh and commanded the Longford Militia at Castlebar in 1798. He was an ardent supporter of the Irish liberal party and was against the Union. In 1806 he was created a peer of Great Britain. He was in favour of Catholic emancipation and reform. He died in Paris in 1837, having spent many years in France. He is buried at Newtownforbes.
