Archibald Acheson (1776 - 1849): |
Archibald Acheson was born in County Armagh and was educated at Oxford University. He was elected member of parliament for County Armagh, and served from 1798 to 1807. He was 2nd Earl of Gosford and became Governor General of Canada. He advocated the unpopular policy of conciliation both in Ireland and in Canada, and because of opposition he resigned.
