James Graham Fair (1831 - 1894):
Prospector, banker and politician

James Fair was born in Clogher, County Tyrone, and went to America when he was twelve years old. The gold rush of 1849 drew him to California, and the silver mining of Nevada lured him in 1860. With his friends and fellow-countrymen Mackay, Flood and O'Brien, he became known as one of the 'bonanza kings' who owned large silver mines and founded the Bank of Nevada. He was elected a United States Senator in 1881 and served until 1887. He retired from business in 1886 as a millionaire. He died in San Francisco.
