Frederick George Donnan (1870 - 1956):

Frederick Donnan was born in Colombo, Ceylon (later Sri Lanka) but grew up in his merchanr faher's native ULster, at Holywood, County Down. He was educated at Queen's College, Belfast, where he obtained his BA in 1894, and in Berlin, Leipzig and London. He was an honorary graduate of the National University of Ireland and of other universities. He was a Fellow of the Royal University of Ireland from 1898 to 1901 and later an examiner there. In 1902 he was assistant professor at University College, London and from 1903 to 1904 was a Lecturer in Chemistry at the Royal College of Science, Dublin. He was also the person who coin ed the term, aerosol.
