Fred Daly (1911 - 1990): Golf player
Fred Daly was born in Portrush, County Antrim and was a professional golfer. In 1944 he was appointed pro at Balmoral where he remained until 1990. He won the Irish Open in 1946 and in 1947 won the British Open Golf Championship, the first Ulster player or Irsh player to do so. He won the British Professional Matchplay title in 1947, 1948 and 1952. He attained Ryder Cup honours three times, in 1947, 1949 and 1953. He won the Ulster professional title eleven times and the Irish Professional Championship three times. He won many cups and was awarded the MBE in 1983. In 1984 he became the third golfer to join the Texaco Hall of Fame
