May Crommelin was born in County Down and educated at home. She was a descendant of Louis Crommelin. She spent her early life in Ireland, later lived in London, and travelled a great deal. She wrote more than thirty novels and many short stories. Her publications include Orange Lily and other stories; Black Abbey (1880)and The Golden Bow (1912).
