Sir James Craig (1861 - 1933):
Physician


James Craig was born at Castlecat, near Bushmills, County Antrim where his father was a farmer. He was educated at Coleraine Academical Institution and Trinity College, Dublin where he graduated BA (1879); MB BCh (1885); and MD (1891). His career began as assistant physician at the Meath Hospital, Dublin; visiting at the same hospital (1892-1910); physician to Sir Patrick Dun’s and Dr Steeven’s Hospitals. In 1910 he was appointed King’s Professor of Medicine at Dublin University. He served as Vice-President and later President of the Royal College Physicians in Ireland; was MP for Dublin University 1921-1933 and was knighted in 1921. He was also President of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Ireland; and the author of numerous academic papers. He was physician to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.
