Joseph Sterling Coyne (1803 - 1868):

Joseph Coyne was born in Birr, County Offaly and was educated in Dungannon and Dublin. He contributed to the Comet and wrote several farces, some of which were staged at the Theatre Royal, Dublin. In 1837 he went to London and during his stay there wrote over sixty dramatic pieces, some of which were translated into French and German. He was a co-founder of Punch.
