David Cairnes (1645 - 1722):

David Cairnes was born in Derry and became a lawyer. He played a prominent part in the defence of Derry in the early stages of the siege. In 1689 he was appointed lieutenant-colonel of a regiment. For thirty years after the war he served Derry as a member of parliament, and was appointed Recorder of the city. He is buried in the cathedral churchyard.
