Cainnech was born at Drumrammer, near Limavady, County Londonderry, and was the patron saint of Kilkenny. He studied at Clonard around 543, and is said to have visited Columba at Iona. He belonged to the Corca-dalan of Ulster and founded churches at Aghaboe and Kilkenny and a school at Drumachose. He was the son of the famous poet Lydach, and his feast day is the 11th of October.
