D'Arcy Wentworth (1762 - 1827): |
D'Arcy Wentworth was born in Portadown, County Armagh and in 1782 held a commission in the Volunteers. He went to New South Wales in 1790 and was appointed Principal Surgeon and later Superintendent of Police in Sydney. He also held the appointment of Colonial Treasurer. The building of the general hospital was financed by the proceeds of a 'spirit monopoly' which he initiated.
