Robert Torrens was born in County Londonderry and was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. In 1798 he was called to the Bar and became a serjeant-at-law, and in 1823 a judge of common pleas. He sat on the Bench for thirty-three years. He died in Derrynoid, County Londonderry
