Thomas Smyth (1884 - 1928):

Tom Smyth was born in County Antrim, was educated at Ballymena Academy and eventually gained a doctorate. He was a rugby international and played for Malone and Newport, Wales. Between 1908 and 1912 he was capped for Ireland fourteen times, and was captain of the team only once in 1910. He was appointed Captain of the British and Irish Touring Side who went to South Africa. Both his brothers, William and Patrick, played for Ireland, and were capped several times.
