William Brown (1784 - 1864):

William Brown was born in Ballymena, County Antrim, which he left to enter the linen trade in Baltimore. He was highly successful and opened a branch in Liverpool at the age of twenty-five. He sat as member of parliament for Lancashire and became chairman of the Atlantic Telegraph Company. He was created a baronet and established a free library and museum in Liverpool.
