Osborne Reynolds was born in Belfast and was educated at Cambridge University. In 1867 he was made a Fellow of Queen's University, Belfast, and from 1868 to 1905 he was Professor of Engineering at Owen's College, Manchester. He published much original research under the title Papers on Mechanical and Physical Subjects in three volumes and died in Somerset.
