Peter Redfern was born in Derbyshire and educated at the Universities of Edinburgh and London, where he studied medicine. He was Professor of Anatomy and Physiology in Queen's College, Belfast, from 1860 to 1893. He was responsible for the building of dissecting and lecture rooms and a medical museum.
