Irish chieftain

Niall Garbh O'Donnell was born in County Donegal and opposed the election of Red Hugh O'Donnell as chief. He took Lifford and Donegal from him and was himself inaugurated at Kilmacrenan. In 1608 he was accused of conspiring with Cahir O'Doherty in a rebellion, and in 1609 he was committed to the Tower of London where he remained until his death.
