Richard Bourke, Lord Naas, subsequently 6th Earl of Mayo, was born in Dublin and was member of parliament for Kildare from 1847 to 1852 and Coleraine from 1852 to 1857. He was Chief Secretary for Ireland during the Fenian rising in 1867. He succeeded as Earl of Mayo, was knighted and appointed Governor-General of India. He was shot while visiting penal settlements in the Andaman Islands.
