William MacKay was born in Belfast, and he and both his brothers Wallace and Joseph wrote fiction, plays and poetry. William's titles included Pro Patria: the autobiography of an Irish conspirator, “carefully transcribed and edited from authentic documents” (1883), Beside Still Waters (1885), and The Popular Idol.
