Hugh Harkin (1791 - 1854):
Physician, poet and writer
Hugh Harkin was born at Magilligan, County Londonderry. He practised as a doctor at Coleraine and was a prolific poet and writer. He composed Sacred Songs of the People, which were adapted to popular airs. His book The Quarter Clift, or The Life and Adventures of Hudy M'Guigan was serialised in 1840, but had a court injunction placed upon it because it was said to refer to persons in the Randalstown and Draperstown districts.
