Samuel Haliday (1685 - 1739):
Cleric, Presbyterian

It is likely that Samuel Haliday was born in Omagh, County Tyrone. He was educated in Glasgow and Leiden and ordained a Presbyterian minister at Geneva in 1708. He became an army chaplain and was subsequently posted to Belfast in 1719. He refused to subscribe to the Westminster Confession of Faith, which issue caused a split in the Presbyterian Church. He was the author of many pamphlets on this subject.
