Thomas Given lived in Cullybackey, County Antrim. He left school in 3rd class to work on the farm. After a short stay in America, he returned to Cullybackey, where he remained for the rest of his life. He was a Justice of the Peace and an active Freemason, secretary of his lodge for twenty-five years. His Ulster Scots dialect poems are published, along with those of his brothers, Patrick Given (1837-1864) and Samuel Fee Given (1845-1867) in Poems from College and Country by Three Brothers (1900).
