William Archer (1830 - 1897): |
William Archer was born in Magherahamlet, County Down. He was a naturalist and in 1875 was elected Fellow of the Royal Society and Librarian of the Royal Dublin Society. In 1877 he was appointed director of the National Library of Ireland, where he established a dictionary catalogue. In 1879 he was awarded the Cunningham Gold Medal of the Royal Irish Academy for his scientific achievements.
