Ebenezer Crawford was born in Belfast and studied art at the Belfast School of Design, and later in London. From 1859 to 1873 he exhibited about a dozen pictures at the Royal Academy, which included 'The Smithy, Redbay Cave, County Antrim', painted in 1861. The Ulster Museum has a sketch drawn by him.
