William Connolly ( - 1729):
Politician and lawyer


William Conolly was born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal. He became a barrister and Speaker of the Irish House of Commons from 1715 to 1729. He was a Commisioner of Revenue and a Lord Justice, and served both Donegal, from 1692 to 1699 and County Londonderry from 1703 to 1729 as a member of parliament. Linen scarves were first worn at his funeral to encourage the linen trade.
