Maud Clarke was born in Belfast and was educated in Belfast, Dublin and Oxford. She returned to Belfast as deputy Professor of History at Queen's University. In 1919 she was appointed tutor at Somerville College, Oxford, and in 1922 became a fellow. She was involved in the fourth volume of the Oxford History of England and a book on medieval representation. She died in Carnmoney, County Antrim.
