Bartholomew Teeling was born in Lisburn, County Antrim. He was educated in Dublin at the Dubordieu School. He joined the United Irishmen and went to France in 1796 to enlist support for a French invasion of Ireland. He returned to Ireland, landing at Killala. He fought at Ballinamuck and surrendered at Collooney. He was court-martialled and hanged in Dublin.
