Charles William Stewart (1778 - 1854):

Charles Stewart was born in Dublin and joined the army serving in the Netherlands and in the Peninsular War. He was promoted to the rank of general and in 1814 was appointed Ambassador to Vienna. He was a Member of Parliament for County Londonderry from 1801 to 1814, and joint Governor of County Down. In 1852 he was knighted, and he succeeded as 3rd Marquis of Londonderry. He wrote narratives of military campaigns. A monument to him was erected at Scrabo, County Down. [Biography by Sir A. Alison]
