Eyre Massey Shaw (1828 - 1908):
Eyre Massey Shaw was born in Ballymore, County Cork, and was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. In 1859 he was Chief Constable in Belfast, and he reorganised the city's fire brigade. He was appointed head of the London fire brigade in 1861 and was severely injured while directing operations. He was knighted in 1891, and in 1892 was given the freedom of the city of London. He wrote many works on fire protection and served on the boards of companies.
