James Wallace Quinton (1834 - 1891):
Civil servant


James Quinton was born in Quinton, County Fermanagh, and was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He served in India in the Bengal civil service from 1856 and was made a Companion of the Order of the Star of India. In 1889 he was appointed Chief Commissioner of Assam and in 1891 he was murdered when attempting to quell a rebellion.
