George O'Neill (1863 - 1947):
Academic and writer


George O'Neill was born in Dungannon, County Tyrone, and was educated at St Stanislaus' College, Tullamore, and at the Universities of Prague and Paris. In 1900 he became a Fellow of Royal University of Ireland. He was Emeritus Professor of English at University College, Dublin, and Professor of Modern Languages at Corpus Christi College, Melbourne. Among his publications are Could Bacon have Written the Plays?; Five Centuries of English Poetry; Golden Years on the Paraguay; The Psalms and The Book of Job, the last two being translations with commentary.
