Tomas O Casaide (c.1700 - ):
Tomas O Casaide was born in either Roscommon or in Ulster and entered the Augustinian novitiate. However, he was expelled and went to Europe, where he joined the French army, from which he soon deserted. He travelled to Germany where he was captured by bandits, but eventually made his way back to Ireland as a travelling story-teller. Eachtra an Bhrathair Ultaigh is an account of his adventure; a copy of the manuscript is in the Royal Irish Academy and another in the British Library.
