Arthur Moore was born in Monaghan and went to England where he made a fortune trading. In 1695 he was member of parliament for Grimsby, and subsequently became director of the South Sea Company. In 1712 he was instrumental in bringing about the Commercial treaty with France and Spain. By the time of his death he owned large estates in Surrey.
