William Montgomery (1633 - 1707):

William Montgomery was born in Aughaintain, County Tyrone, and was educated in County Down, Glasgow and Leyden. Having returned to Ireland in 1652 and repossessed the family estate of Rosemount House, Greyabbey, in 1661 he became a member of parliament for Newtownards. He was High Sheriff of County Down from 1670. He wrote A Description of the Ards, and his family history The Montgomery Manuscript, which was first published in the Belfast Newsletter from 1785 onwards, and then in book form in 1830. He is buried at Greyabbey, County Down.
